Art class

While home, Petra has been getting assignments for music, P.E., art, and technology classes.  I'm afraid we've allowed several of these assignments to slide.  There is only so much we can keep track of in a day. (If you count the kids' specials teachers, we have been getting notes, instruction, and directions from 21 different teachers, and they all have slightly different ways of communicating what they would like students to do.  Plus I'm still working ~6 hrs per workday.)

One of Petra's art options three weeks ago was to create an illustration that tells a story, much as Normal Rockwell would.  Two weeks ago, the art project was to create a Jackson Pollock style painting.  For the uninitiated, like me, Jackson Pollock was an artist who flung and spattered paint onto his canvases.

It took me the whole week to work up the energy to set Petra up with a Pollock painting project.  Each day I would say, "We can paint this afternoon," and each afternoon the idea of making that level of mess was too much for me to jump into.

Finally, Saturday afternoon rolled around, and I got out the paint.  We set Petra and Nathan up with paper and paints outside on the driveway.  They each picked three colors to work this, and we dribbled rather than splattered the paint.

First we Pollock painted our paper.  Then we Pollock painted some of the surrounding rocks.  Finally, we were running to the apron of asphalt running from the road to our driveway and Pollock painted that too.

We are so creative and artistic.
