Mustard seeds are tiny. And I've been frustrated with the mention of mustard seeds in the Bible. Something about if I've got the faith of a mustard seed I can move mountains, right?
He said to them, “... For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
So I try to have faith. And I try harder. And I grit my teeth and try harder.
It's like trying to believe without a bit of doubt in fairies, or the Great Pumpkin. If my faith is untainted, then I'll move that mountain, right? "I do believe in fairies; I do believe in fairies," clap, clap, clap
OR
I have heard it suggested that the mustard seed faith is a faith in God. In God's power, wisdom, goodness, graciousness.
I am beginning to believe that I can ungrit my teeth and put my tiny portion of faith in God.
God moves mountains.
I am responsible to respond to God's words, promises, and commands. That is the faith. If those words, promises, and commands say, "Move the mountain," I will take my shovel to it. My heart says I can't, and my heart is right. It has pleased God that I should take my shovel to the mountain and be amazed by what he does.
