Julia went outside to play this morning and stayed out by herself for over an hour. She explored, played with the cats, tried out her "snow scooter" and even played on the rope swing. Eventually her siblings wandered out to join her and got the sleds down from their shelf.

By the time I came outside, the older three children had made good use of the tiny slope opposite the driveway from the garage. Nathan stood with his little blue sled. It was a Christmas present from the year before, and this was the first time we had enough snow to use it. He wanted to go on his sled, but he was scared.
I talked him into riding the sled while sitting in my lap. We rode down that tiny slope half a dozen times, and then he let himself be persuaded to go solo. Once he realized it was only fun and not too scary, he started exploring other parts of the yard with his sled.
It was so sweet to watch him conquer a fear.
When we bundled inside, Steve had pulled a bunch of pillows and cushions around the fireplace and had started getting hot chocolate ready. Super nice.
