Tangled

I had a small relational victory with Julia this week.  She has a longstanding aversion to brushing her hair.  It seems like her scalp is extra sensitive.  I noticed Sunday morning that she had a tangle on the side of her head, and asked her to brush it.  She kind of did.

At bedtime I said, "You have really got to brush this thing out."  I took a closer look and realized she had matted hair on both sides of her head just in front of her ears.  It looked like horns sticking out from her head.  With a bunch of detangler spray, she and I both worked on her hair for the next half hour solid.  And while I started with a few comments about, "How did this happen?!" and "You CAN'T let it get this bad,"  I checked myself from spending the full half hour sniping at her.  I even shared about how I had gotten pine sap in my hair during recess in 1st grade, and mom used turpentine to get it out.
So we ended the night with nice hair AND we were still on speaking terms.  Yay!
